For those who love to get out on two wheels, there are a plethora of biking trails around Noosa, taking you on beach paths down to Peregian, long rides out into the hinterland or sedate sightseeing routes along the river. There are also a number of mountain bike trails for those requiring thrill with their downhill.
For the serious cyclist, packing the lycra along with your speed machine is well worth the effort; the 40km return Noosa Triathlon route from Hastings St up into Cooroy, is breathtaking in every sense. If the scenery doesn’t get you: Mt Tinbeerwah will. Further kilometres can be achieved through adding on the Pomona and Black Mountain Loops. Take it a little easier on the lactic acid and try the less hilly yet perhaps even more scenic 23km return Noosa to Peregian Beach coastal route, a favourite amongst locals. These are both road cycling routes: please obey all road rules.
For those wanting a slightly less arduous ride, there are plenty of safe and flat options, from the 13km return ride from Hastings St along the river toward Tewantin, or the mainly off road 12km return ride from Gympie Terrace to Noosa Junction. This is an excellent opportunity to burn a few calories before sitting down to lunch or morning tea along the river, the Junction or at the beach, whilst getting out and seeing what Noosa has to offer beyond Hastings St. For parents simply looking to exercise little legs, the pathways from Noosa Pacific down to the river mouth and back are off road for the most part. Tiring them out along the river couldn’t be easier either: the pathway along the river at Gympie Terrace is flat and safe, 3km return and has a large playground at one end.
For crazed mountain biker types, the Wooroi Trails in Tewantin National Park are excellent for getting your fix of dirt and adrenalin. Just a short drive from Noosa sound, these trails cater mostly to intermediate and experienced riders, though there is one easy ride designed for the little ones.
And don’t worry if you can’t fit your bike in your suitcase: there are plenty of places to hire your two wheeled preference. From mountain bikes to cruisers and electric bikes, just ask our friendly team at reception and we’ll help source your ride.
The above is by no means an exhaustive list of biking routes and trails around Noosa. The Noosa Council has an excellent map with distances, grades and approximate times here:
