Whilst Noosa Pacific provides epic views out along the Noosa River, working your way up a mountain to a more panoramic view of the Sunshine Coast offers not only a great work out, but a sensational way of getting your bearings. Here in Noosa, we’re blessed with a Hinterland offering lots of vantage points across the coast suited to just about every fitness level.
Mount Tinbeerwah
Located a short 20 minute drive toward Cooroy, Mt Tinbeerwah offers the best in expansive views over the Noosa end of the Sunshine Coast. This short and sharp walk is suitable for wheelchairs and prams to the first lookout point (130m) and offers lovely views to the coastline. For those with a little more mobility, walking another 300m to the fire tower lookout will reward you with spectacular 360 degree views to Noosa Heads, the lakes up to Noosa North Shore and beyond out to Laguna Bay. Beautiful vistas of national park, farmlands and the coast make this a wonderful, short stop on an exploratory day into the Hinterland.
Mount Cooroora (Pomona)
A little further into the Hinterland and ancient rocky outcrops from long gone volcanoes begin to emerge in the landscape. One of the most iconic for climbers, walkers and runners is Mt Cooroora, located on the outskirts of Pomona in the Tuchekoi National Park. This is home to the annual King of The Mountain footrace, where hopefuls run up and down 4.2kms of (at times almost vertical) mountainside to claim the win. Luckily for Noosa Pacific guests, there is no such pressure to perform! The Lookout Walk is a relatively easy 1.1km return, fairly steep trek to a reasonable lookout over the surrounding area. Fighting fit and love a challenge? The Summit Route ascends 439m over 1.8kms, involves lots of rock clambering and should only be attempted by those with very good mobility and fitness. The reward from what is a LOT of huffing and puffing is absolutely spectacular views at the top! Have water, go with a group and be prepared for 2-3 hours of challenging mountain climbing. After all that hard work, we can recommend stopping off at the Pomona Distillery for a delicious Asian inspired lunch and a refreshing cocktail.
Mount Ninderry
A beautiful 33 km drive via Eumundi to Mount Ninderry will provide another stimulating walk and excellent views of cane flats, Peregian, Coolum and Maroochydore. The 3km return walk from the car park provides just enough steps and rock climbing to feel like you’ve really earnt that lunch out. With a number of spectacular lookouts, one to the East and another to the West, and tall eucalypt and gum forests sprinkled with large boulders, this is a lovely way to spend a windy day away from the beach. Picnic tables are on site, or you could head down to the Terella Brewery for a refreshing ale, cheese platter or something from the ever changing line up of food trucks (weekends only). Here on a Wednesday or Saturday? Time it right for a selection of exotic fare from the Eumundi Markets.
Mount Coolum
Follow the David Low Way 25 minutes down the beautiful coastline from Noosa Pacific to the Mount Coolum National Park and climb what is one of the Sunshine Coast’s most recognisable land marks. Mount Coolum is a volcanic peak bulging out of the surrounding lowlands, is a bird watchers paradise and contains some rare and endangered plant species. The walk to the top is arduous. It’s only 1.6kms return, but with an elevation of 208 metres, this walk is steep and steppy. The benefits at the top however are 360 degree views up the coast to Noosa and down to Point Cartwright, out to the Glass House Mountains and the Blackall Range. Don’t underestimate this walk: you will be puffing! There is little in the way of barriers on this steep walk; please watch your children. Stop in at the Peregian Beach village on your way back for delicious eats from around the square.
